Best Wishes from Fort D A Russell Wyoming
1 Best Wishes from Fort D A Russell Wyoming
Soft cover Very Good Book
A folding card, heavy red card stock, containing two black and white photos depicting Fort D A Russell near Cheyenne, Wyoming. A mini 1926 calendar is pasted to the paper frame below one picture. In very good condition, red card stock has light spotting and soiling. Fort D A Russell (named after Union Brigadier General David A Russell) was established in 1867. The fort was originally built to protect the builders of the Union Pacific Railroad. It became one of the nation's largest military posts during World War I. In 1930 it was renamed Fort Frances E Warren, honoring US Senator Francis E. Warren. It later became Warren Air Force Base and still exists today. One of the photos depicts tents, horses, men and wagons, quite possibly in a camp while on patrol. The other is oblique aerial view of the fort, showing most of the buildings and grounds.

Powder River Invasion War on the Rustlers in 1892, A S Mercer, John Mercer Boots
10 A S Mercer, John Mercer Boots Powder River Invasion War on the Rustlers in 1892
Self Published 1923 First Edition Hardcover Good Book
Small hardcover, no DJ. In good condition, moderate bumping to spine ends and corners, minor cover staining, front hinge is beginning to separate, pages are toning, text is clear and clean. This is a 1923 printing of the extremely rare 1894 book written by Asa Shinn Mercer. Even this 1923 edition is scarce. This is the story of the Johnson County, Wyoming, war pitting the settlers (rustlers) against the cattle barons of the day. A S Mercer was not originally on the side of the settlers, but he felt compelled to write the story (Banditti of the Plains, sub-titled The Crowning Infamy of the Ages) to tell of the tactics used by the cattle barons. Most of the original edition was destroyed under mysterious circumstances.
