The first major battle between the US Army and the Cheyenne Indians took place on the south fork of teh Solomon River in present-day Kansas. It was the only large-unit sabre charge against the Plains tribes in a battle that was as much a clash of cultures as of cavalry and Cheyenne warriors.

Canoe Launcher, or Sacajawea as she hs come down to us in history, was a Shoshone Indian slave captured by the Minnetarres. She grew up with them but always here eyes wer fixed with longing on her Shoshone home, south of the sunset.
